![]() The Invention - “A unique but already proven method”The inventor of this unit, Mr H. Fehring, is a German textile chemist with years of experience in the chemical industry and textile cleaning. He is also a keen sailor and yacht owner, who has often been annoyed by the bad condition and treatment of sails. The idea of developing a professional unit for cleaning and finishing sails arose with the intention of solving this problem. After the technical development of the unit, method and formulations, a prototype unit was built and tested successfully in Ostend, Belgium. In May 2005, Mr Fehring also won the Runner-prize for the best innovation in Europe with the NovoSail system (BIZ idea of Belgium/EU). Conventional sail washing Conventional sail washing cannot meet the demands of modern sails. Cleaning by hand with a high pressure washer is not only very time intensive, but also leads to mechanical strain on the sails and damage to the sails surface. The fibres of the sails can be roughened and damaged just from the water pressure and the hard mechanical brushes. Another disadvantage of conventional sail washing is that it can remove coatings and other textile finishes, which can have a very negative effect on the resistance and durability of the sail. The result is not satisfactory, as the sails do not really become clean, they lose all protective finishes and value, and wear out even quicker. The advantages of the method:
